We did it!

At 3:12 p.m. today, the Seattle City Council unanimously approved the new Bicycle Master Plan!

A huge thank you goes out to Councilmember Tom Rasmussen for his strong leadership as Chair of the Transportation Committee and seeing the Plan through to adoption. In addition,Councilmembers Sally Bagshaw, Sally Clark and Mike O'Brien have been champions over the last two years for building a complete network of protected bike lanes and neighborhood greenways across Seattle. 

We also thank the Seattle Department of Transportation. Their tireless dedication to the Bicycle Master Plan will make Seattle's streets safer for everyone.

One last big thank you to Mayor Ed Murray and his staff, who quickly resolved a lawsuit that had held up the Plan’s adoption.

Our work is only beginning. To realize the Plan’s priorities, the city council will need to re-prioritize budgets and voters will need to approve new funding through ballot measures. We’ll need your advocacy to make it happen, so stick around to make sure Seattle funds and builds the new bike network.

But first, let's take a moment to celebrate the work we've done together. On Friday, April 25, Cascade Bicycle Club, Bike Works, Commute Seattle, Seattle Bicycle Advisory Board, Seattle Bike Blog, Seattle Neighborhood Greenways and Washington Bikes are all throwing a party together for the Seattle City Council's adoption of the new Bike Plan.
