The Let’s Go program provides elementary schools with the resources to implement an in-class bicycle and pedestrian safety program for students in grades 3–5. The Let’s Go curriculum is composed of five lessons and is implemented in Physical Education classes to teach students the fundamentals of bicycle safety, which builds confidence, inspires the joy of riding, and encourages biking to school.

This multi-week curriculum meets OSPI Health & PE standards and is the result of the collaboration between bicycle and pedestrian safety educators, transportation professionals, neighborhood safe street advocates, curriculum specialists, teachers, adaptive physical education specialists, and school administrators.

Let’s Go builds upon Cascade Bicycle Club’s “Basics of Bicycling” program, integrating pedestrian safe crossing skills and providing educators with the opportunity to meet students at their skill level with differentiated lessons. The program focuses on the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent the most common causes of crashes and errors of the upper-elementary age group as they navigate the built environment.

The impact is BIG

Let's Go programs in Puget Sound and across the state are making waves in their communities. Students of varying abilities, backgrounds, and familiarity with cycling are learning the joys of independence by bike.

  • 147 participating schools
  • 47,000 K-8 students receiving bike education
  • Over 400 students learned to ride a bike in 2023
  • Traffic gardens installed at schools across Seattle

Let's Go - Across the State

Let’s Go Across the State teaches children in 140+ schools all across Washington bike and pedestrian safety skills to begin their lifelong joy of safe bicycling and walking.

As students learn to safely navigate as walkers and rollers through this program, Let’s Go is an invitation for students to be healthy and active in their daily lives. In the face of urgent climate change concerns, Let’s Go is also a call to action, encouraging students to power themselves to their destinations and providing the foundation of skills and knowledge to walk and roll safely for many years to come. Respect for other street, trail, and sidewalk users is a cornerstone of this curriculum as we hold the safety of others at the forefront.

Starting in 2022, Let’s Go began developing a middle school curriculum called Let’s Go Further and began a pilot program for students in grades 6-8 in Seattle Public Schools. The goal is to increase and expand upon students’ current bicycle skills and knowledge, with an emphasis on educating about and promoting multi-modal transportation.

Cascade Bicycle Club provides the curriculum, teaching materials, professional development teacher training, bicycles, helmets, and maintenance and logistics support for school district partners across the state. Learn why our partnership with schools is so critical for students from former Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Denise Juneau, and support Cascade in continuing to expand and grow this work.
